Skincare Mindset: what's your skin story?

Skincare Mindset: what's your skin story?
Skincare Mindset: what's your skin story?

Part of the issue with how we approach skincare is the relentless pressure for perfection — and the perfect product to get us there.

We’re often so busy chasing a cure, a fix, to achieve a flawless version of ourselves. But what your skincare represents, and how you use it, often says more about your relationship with yourself than with your skin. And it often reflects how you live your life, make decisions and prioritise your well being.

We tend to think in terms of quick fixes, follow skincare trends, reeling off our facial routines by the ingredient like a list of A List celebrities we just happen to know; hyaluronic acid, bakuchiol, vitamin C, retinol...

But what if we’ve misunderstood the point entirely?

What if the problem isn’t which product is missing from your shelf — but how you relate to the idea of skincare itself?

You may not realise this but you are in a relationship with every skincare product on your shelf right now. You may be in a relationship with skincare that has lost its spark and gone on just a little too much longer than it should and you probably should have parted ways a few years ago but it's really quite comfortable because you don't want to rock the skincare boat and you're not sure whether there's something better out there but you know, deep down that this skincare isn't really doing anything for you anymore.

Or, you may be seeing quite a few different brands right now because they're all so attractive and promising the world and you may be missing out on the ONE special ingredient that's going to lead to perfection.

Or you may be seeing the same one every night because that's what you do with skincare - same cleanser, same serum, same moisturiser, same routine every night and you've been seeing each other for years and it does what it says it does on the label. And that's ok.

Or you simply may not be talking to each other right now and haven't spoken for a while.

It’s not about finding the perfect skincare routine or the right name on the label. It’s about having a healthy relationship — with your products, your skin, and yourself.

The best kind of skincare relationship? One with clear mutual understanding. Where your products are right for your skin type, they speak your skin’s language, and they meet you with what you actually need — every day, morning and night.

One of the things I love most about skincare is choice.

YOU get to choose who stays on your shelf, how long they stay, and when it’s time to part ways. You have agency over how you care for your skin — and how you treat yourself in the process.

And when that relationship is developed over time - healthy, grounded in trust and aligned with your skin's needs. That’s when beautiful results really happen.
